Automotive Stadium
The stadium is the contribution to Expo of five leading car manufacturers. It will also be used for principal sports events.
Of unique precast construction form, it covers an area of 366,100 square feet. Nineteen seat-supporting units rest on pre-stressed concrete columns and beams. The units slope up from ground level, giving the effect of a bowl.
The stadium was located outside the main Expo site, allowing it to be used for events without requiring a ticket to Expo. It is seen here during construction. The rest of Cité du Havre has been cleared of the original buildings that were on the site and construction has just begun on the Expo pavilions and Habitat 67. (CD 14 Set 36 #002)
