BELGIAN PAVILION |
“Together With Japan Into the 21st Century”
Interpreting the theme of Expo, Belgium’s Pavilion shows the transition from the present industrial society to the information society of the future. The display gives you an idea of the way in which life and work will be integrated in the future through the applications of science and technology. The future is projected into four decades starting 1985, 1995, 2005 and 2015 respectively, and showing the preparations that Belgium is making for its entry into the 21st century hand in hand with Japan. The exhibits – which include colorful information on the Belgian Royal Family and its links with the Imperial Family of Japan, as well as facts on the three Belgian regions of Brussels, Flanders, and Wallonia – highlight the major Belgian industries like textiles, diamonds, metal processing, architecture, and chemicals. The Atomium, the theme structure from Brussels's Expo '58, was recreated as a topiary figure at the pavilion's entrance. Inside, predictions were provided for life in Belgium over each of the next four decades. (CD #1 Set 2 32) |
