Concordia Bridge
The Concordia Bridge (was) completed in the remarkably short time of 18 months.
This bridge, 2,265 feet long and 95 feet wide, is one of the longest orthotropic bridges in the world. Orthotropic means that structure and siperstructure are combined as one element. For this reason it is exceptionally light (10,000 tons) having regard to the job it will do and its spans are exceptionally long. It's cost was $10,500,000.
The Expo-Express train is seen here crossing from Cité du Havre to Île Sainte-Hélène over the Concordia Bridge. The long hike across the river made the train ride quite appealing, especially when heading home after a long day at Expo. (CD xx Set 310 #010)
